FAQ'S

What happens in the intial session?

In the initial session I will explain the process of counselling and the responsibilities expected from both client/s and myself. During this session clients are given the chance to ask questions and explore whether they feel counselling is right for them.

An agreement is made between us which will cover -

  • Time and day of appointments
  • How often and the length of sessions
  • Confidentiality and its limitations
  • Record keeping
  • Non-attendance and cancellations.

The initial appointment lasts approx 30 minutes, further appointments are 50 minutes for individuals and 80 minutes for couples.

Counselling is a joint relationship, I will ask questions about your life, your feelings, thoughts and actions which may be difficult and painful but by doing so it can be a great relief to share these with someone who will not judge you but help you gain a better understanding and reach a positive outcome.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a Counsellor?

As a therapist I will take responsibility for:

  • Time keeping
  • Managing agenda
  • Giving feedback
  • Monitoring the therapeutic  relationship
  • Creating a safe place
  • Ethical issues
  • Keeping notes
  • Drawing up therapy reports
  • Facilitate emotional growth
  • Healing and give emotional support.

How long are the sessions and how many can I have?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes for individuals and 80 minutes  for couples.

You are not limited to a set amount of sessions and will continue for as long as you require them.

Can I bring anybody with me?

You may bring someone with you to the initial appointment for support, but during sessions there is a waiting room available.

Is Counselling confidential?

Counselling is highly confidential and is carried out within strict professional boundaries.

There are certain exceptional circumstances in which I may be under legal or ethical duty to disclose information. This is to ensure your safety and the safety of others and to comply with legislation.

If you need to change or cancel an appointment, 24 hours notice is required otherwise a fee will still be payable.
